"Vulnerability is not weakness; it's our greatest measure of courage." - Brené Brown
Society often romanticizes strength through movies, books, and even children's shows. This ideology could not be further from the truth. This type of idea limits growth and vulnerability is usually misunderstood and is essential to human nature. In more traditional views of emotional strength, being guarded and "unbreakable" creates the most influential man or the most powerful woman. Being strong isn't about perfection and not showing weakness. On the contrary, imperfections and mistakes are what improve you and what offer the key to learning. Being open can show people that you are just like them which makes you an even better leader due to your humility. It takes great courage to face your weaknesses and fears and even more courage to reflect and grow from them.
Moreover, being open to others can strengthen connections and bonds by offering a chance for them to be open too. Replicating an environment where vulnerability is okay, offers a space where trust is vital and can create a hospitable conversation rather than superficial bonds.
Opening up to others and even yourself can be hard especially since it means knowing your true self and your true insecurities, fears, and displeasures. However, there is an immense opportunity to be vulnerable about what you truly care about.
Be open to challenges and take risks even when people are watching. In doing so, you are being truthful to yourself and expressing what human life is meant to be.
